Sonoi
Sonoi is an experimental rock trio from Chicago, IL featuring Adam Busch (from the group Manishevitz) on guitar and vocals, Ryan Hembrey (known from his work with Manishevitz, Smog, Andrew Bird and Edith Frost) on bass and keys and relative newcomer Pierce Doerr, whose compositions have been featured on This American Life, is featured on drums.
The album, “Sonoi,” (out on the band’s own imprint, Meno Mosso Records) is a blend of pop and jam instrumentation with a dash of jazz and experimental layered electronic sound. There are some sleepier spots, but when Sonoi wants to build a song that will get stuck in your head, they succeed. A couple of pop standouts on the album are “Sherry Fall” and “Eva Baton.”

We also recommend checking out the beautiful stop-action animation video created by Via Nuon for the laid-back jam lead-off single, “Red Ants,” (below).

“Sonoi” was recorded by Michael Krassner (Blues Oblique, Boxhead Ensemble) at Clava Studios on the South Side of Chicago, near Comiskey Park (the home of the White Sox).
Sonoi’s record release show is May 14 at The Empty Bottle in Chicago, with The Lonesome Organist (headline) and David Daniell.
